Company History
The original vision for the Pan-American Life Insurance Company came to a man on a boat while delivering produce to the United States from Central and South America. It was at that moment that Crawford H. Ellis, a native of New Orleans, La., realized his passion for the people of Latin America and how important it was to offer them personal and business insurance protection.
In 1911, Mr. Ellis shared his inspiration with three other distinguished gentlemen, including Dr. Edward G. Simmons, an expert in life insurance, Dr. Marion Souchon, a renowned surgeon and physician and Eugene J. McGivney, a corporate lawyer, and together they created the Pan-American Life Insurance Company to serve the needs of individuals and businesses in Central and South America and the United States. Pan-American Life issued its first life insurance policy in March 1912 and was on its way to becoming the first company known to be serving The Americas.
Today, Pan-American Life serves and protects thousands of customers throughout the Americas. The company is currently licensed in 47 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico and has affiliates in Colombia, Costa Rica, Cayman Islands, Guatemala and Panama, as well as branch offices in Ecuador, El Salvador and Honduras.
